Summer's here! And that means it's time to hit the road on a fantastic summer getaway. Let your friends here at your hometown Homosassa Toyota dealer, Village Toyota, give you a hand with your summer vacation planning. We've compiled a list of 10 of the most popular and unique places to visit in Florida this summer. So grab the sunscreen, fill up the cooler, pack your gear, gather the gang, and let's head out on your best summertime road-trip adventure ever!

Tarpon Springs

Just down the coast in Tarpon Springs where you'll find a thriving Greek community that will make you feel like you landed smack dab in the middle of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2." Sip some ouzo, enjoy some baklava, dolmades, taramosalata (fish roe dip), pastitsio (baked Greek lasagna), and gyros (pronounced Yi-rose) at Dimitri's on the Water, a Tarpon Springs favorite. You can also go SCUBA diving off Veteran's Reef in search of the sponges that drew thousands of Greek immigrants to the area back in the early 1900s.

Kick Back At Cedar Key

Just up the coast is a little gem of a getaway that has a funky vibe all its own. If your goal is to de-stress, relax, and enjoy the warm Florida summer sun, you'll find Cedar Key a perfect haven of calm and serenity. Jimmy Buffett, who is probably one of the most laid back people on the planet, enjoyed staying in Room 32 at the historic Island Hotel built in 1859. Oh, and you might run into a friendly ghost who likes to kiss people on the cheek when they sleep. While you're there, be sure to enjoy the natural splendor of the Cedar Key National Wildlife Refuge.

Horse Around In Ocala

You might already know that nearby Ocala is an epicenter for breeding some of the world's finest thoroughbreds. You can take a relaxing carriage ride past many of the sprawling horse farms or take in the fascinating historical exhibits at the Appleton Museum. Hoist a pint or two and enjoy an authentic English meal at the Horse and Hounds Restaurant & Pub.

Take A Wine-Tasting Tour Of Tampa

If you like your Zin, crave a Cabernet, enjoy musing over a Merlot, or prefer a Pinot Noir, then why not go on a wine-tasting safari in nearby Tampa, Clearwater, and St. Pete. The area boasts 10 outstanding wineries offering an excellent assortment of wines for every palette. For the ultimate wine-tasting experience, head on over to Bern's Steak House in Tampa which boasts Florida's largest wine list with more than 6,800 options. Of course, we urge you to please drink responsibly. Use a designated driver or be sure to sober up before you get behind the wheel. After all, a DUI can really ruin a summer getaway in a hurry. village-toyota-celebrates-summer-walt-disney-world

Walt Disney

Walt Disney World is bigger, more exciting, and more spectacular than ever. If you haven't been to the Magic Kingdom in a while, you'll find lots of fantastic new things to see and do. The Force Awakens at the new Star Wars experience where you can get up close (well, not too close) with Stormtroopers and many other of your favorite heroes and villains from the Star Wars universe. With four distinct theme parks and so much to do, you may not want to leave. And you can take advantage of outstanding special summer offers and discounts on lodging and park access.

Universal Studios

Can't get enough of the summertime theme-park experience? Then head on over to Universal Studios Orlando. The Magic Kingdom doesn't have a monopoly on magic, you know. Not with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter to delight fans of the J.K Rowling's books and movies. Muggles (non-wizards) of all ages can travel to Hogsmeade at Universal's Islands of Adventure and Diagon Alley. Or you can experience Skull Island: Reign of Kong or laugh to the uproarious antics Despicable Me Minion Mayhem.

Daytona Beach

Let's start with a trip to Daytona Beach. Not only is this strand of sun-drenched sand and surf the home of the legendary Daytona 500 at the Daytona International Speedway, but you'll also find a spectacular assortment of summer fun for the entire family. The area is undergoing a massive $2 billion in renovations and construction, bringing a whole new dimension to this vibrant community. Festivals, amusement parks, fine dining, concerts, watersports, and much more make Daytona Beach a great summertime destination. In fact, Daytona Beach is widely regarded as the "Festival Capital of Florida."

St. Augustine

Historic St. Augustine should be high on your summer road-trip itinerary. Charming, quaint, and oozing with history at every turn, the country's oldest city is filled with shopping, dining, and historic sites that promise a memorable summer getaway. There are many excellent restaurants and tours of the area's many historical places, such as the Fountain of Youth Archeological Park and the Colonial Corner.

Jacksonville

We continue our trek up the eastern Florida coastline to Jacksonville. Jacksonville offers all the amenities of a modern urban city combined with a relaxed and casual approach to enjoying life. Jacksonville locals are warm and welcoming, plus there are some amazing attractions in the vicinity that you shouldn't miss. Jacksonville boasts 1,200 holes of golf at many top-rated golf courses, a lively nightlife, a burgeoning cultural scene, incredible shopping, the acclaimed Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens, backcountry adventures, and the nation's largest urban park system with more than 80,000 acres of local, state, and national parks. village-toyota-celebrates-summer-everglades

Everglades National Park

We finish our cavalcade of spectacular Florida summer road-trip adventures with a trip to Everglades National Park. At 1.5 million acres, the Everglades is the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States. Teeming with wildlife, the Everglades is a World Heritage Site, and International Biosphere Reserve, and specially protected area. Please note that the summer months are considered to the Everglades slow season with some limitations and restrictions to recreational opportunities. For more information, please contact the National Park Service at the Everglades at 305-242-7700.

Savory Recipes for Your Thanksgiving Table

November is finally here, and with it comes everyone’s favorite family holiday: Thanksgiving. If you're one of the many who will be preparing a meal for friends and family, you'll want a game plan to create a succulent feast. Although we’re a Homosassa Toyota dealer, we've proudly put together a list of tasty Thanksgiving recipes that will surely make your meal a hit! Main Course & Side Dishes Rosemary Lemon Roasted Turkey While the traditional slow-roasted turkey with pan-dripping gravy is a great way to celebrate Thanksgiving, this Rosemary Lemon Roasted Turkey gives your meal a flavorful twist. The rosemary and lemon offer both herby and citrusy hints that enhance this main dish. The list of ingredients is simple and prep time is minimal. Roasting time takes a few hours and you should stay close by, as the recipe calls for a temperature change and some periodic basting. This is also a great recipe if you like to make your stuffing inside the turkey. Overall, this is an easy and uncomplicated recipe to change up an old favorite. more Slow-Cooker Green Beans Green beans and casserole are two words typically combined at a Thanksgiving meal. This recipe keeps the beans but ditches the casserole in favor of a slow-cooker and bacon. Combined with onions and thyme, these beans take approximately twenty minutes to prep, but then you can forget about them while you prepare the rest of your menu. Pour them into your slow-cooker, cover them with some chicken stock, and let them go for the next three hours. Viola! A fun twist on your traditional veggie dish. Honey-Glazed Spiced Carrots Are you wanting to forgo the traditional sweet potato casserole, but still crave a sweet side dish? These Honey-Glazed Spiced Carrots can be a great substitute. This recipe is super easy to prepare and only takes thirty minutes to cook. A mixture of honey, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg give you the same sweet and spicy flavors you love without the starchy potato. Just pour the mixture over your pan of carrots and bake. Garnish with chives, and you're ready to serve. Cinnamon-Apple Cranberry Sauce Do you cringe at the thought of wiggly-jiggly canned cranberry sauce? Do you find standard cranberries a bit too tart? Then this Cinnamon-Apple Cranberry Sauce is for you! This recipe uses fresh cranberries mixed with another autumn favorite: apples. Combine them with brown sugar, apple cider, and a few spices, and you've got a sweet remake on your hands. From prep to cook time, the entire process takes only twenty minutes and gives you a tasty addition to your meal. Photo: spicysouthernkitchen.com Dessert No Thanksgiving dinner would be complete without dessert! And with so many scrumptious options to choose from, we couldn't pick just one. Salted Caramel Pecan Pie Could any Thanksgiving meal be a meal without pie? This recipe for Salted Caramel Pecan Pie gives a nod to its traditional cousin, while also enhancing everything you love about pie. Make the caramel by boiling sugar, water, and corn syrup. When ready, add butter, cream, and sea salt, giving it that sweet and salty flavor. Once you stir in the pecans, just add it to your pie shell and bake. While preparing the caramel is a bit labor intensive, this pecan pie is mouth-wateringly worth it. Pumpkin Pie Coffee Cake Having Thanksgiving without pumpkin pie is like having Christmas without Santa. However, we've mixed things up a bit with the Pumpkin Pie Coffee Cake. This cake combines the much-loved flavors of pumpkin and pie spices with the texture of a coffee cake. Simply prepare your cake batter, pour half into the pan, then cover with pumpkin filling. Pour the remaining cake batter on top. For an amusing twist, use a knife to create a marbled pattern through the cake. Sprinkle your premade crumble topping over the entire pan and bake. Now you can have your pumpkin pie and cake too! Don't Forget to Give Back Thanksgiving is a time when most of us gather with friends and family to offer thanks. However, it is also important to remember there are many people who don't have this opportunity. One of the best ways to stay grateful for what you have is by giving to others. Here are some great local Spring Hill places to volunteer at this Thanksgiving: Salvation Army The Salvation Army provides many opportunities to volunteer, including food pantries and soup kitchens. To find a location close to you, fill out a volunteer form at their website or conduct a search for the office nearest you. Daystar Life Center Daystar Life Center operates numerous food pantries and soup kitchens throughout Hernando County. It is through their volunteers that these pantries are staffed and those in need are served. Contact them to find Florida volunteering locations this Thanksgiving. Annie W. Johnson Service Center The Annie W. Johnson Service Center is located in Dunnellon. In addition to their thrift store, they also offer meals to those in need, including the shut-ins throughout Citrus County. You can learn more about them on their Facebook page. To find ways you can volunteer, contact their office. Celebrate Thanksgiving in Village Toyota Fashion Enjoy our favorite Thanksgiving recipes and then take some time to express your gratitude by helping others.
