Savory Recipes for Your Thanksgiving Table

November is finally here, and with it comes everyone’s favorite family holiday: Thanksgiving. If you're one of the many who will be preparing a meal for friends and family, you'll want a game plan to create a succulent feast. Although we’re a Homosassa Toyota dealer, we've proudly put together a list of tasty Thanksgiving recipes that will surely make your meal a hit! Main Course & Side Dishes Rosemary Lemon Roasted Turkey While the traditional slow-roasted turkey with pan-dripping gravy is a great way to celebrate Thanksgiving, this Rosemary Lemon Roasted Turkey gives your meal a flavorful twist. The rosemary and lemon offer both herby and citrusy hints that enhance this main dish. The list of ingredients is simple and prep time is minimal. Roasting time takes a few hours and you should stay close by, as the recipe calls for a temperature change and some periodic basting. This is also a great recipe if you like to make your stuffing inside the turkey. Overall, this is an easy and uncomplicated recipe to change up an old favorite. more Slow-Cooker Green Beans Green beans and casserole are two words typically combined at a Thanksgiving meal. This recipe keeps the beans but ditches the casserole in favor of a slow-cooker and bacon. Combined with onions and thyme, these beans take approximately twenty minutes to prep, but then you can forget about them while you prepare the rest of your menu. Pour them into your slow-cooker, cover them with some chicken stock, and let them go for the next three hours. Viola! A fun twist on your traditional veggie dish. Honey-Glazed Spiced Carrots Are you wanting to forgo the traditional sweet potato casserole, but still crave a sweet side dish? These Honey-Glazed Spiced Carrots can be a great substitute. This recipe is super easy to prepare and only takes thirty minutes to cook. A mixture of honey, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg give you the same sweet and spicy flavors you love without the starchy potato. Just pour the mixture over your pan of carrots and bake. Garnish with chives, and you're ready to serve. Cinnamon-Apple Cranberry Sauce Do you cringe at the thought of wiggly-jiggly canned cranberry sauce? Do you find standard cranberries a bit too tart? Then this Cinnamon-Apple Cranberry Sauce is for you! This recipe uses fresh cranberries mixed with another autumn favorite: apples. Combine them with brown sugar, apple cider, and a few spices, and you've got a sweet remake on your hands. From prep to cook time, the entire process takes only twenty minutes and gives you a tasty addition to your meal. Photo: spicysouthernkitchen.com Dessert No Thanksgiving dinner would be complete without dessert! And with so many scrumptious options to choose from, we couldn't pick just one. Salted Caramel Pecan Pie Could any Thanksgiving meal be a meal without pie? This recipe for Salted Caramel Pecan Pie gives a nod to its traditional cousin, while also enhancing everything you love about pie. Make the caramel by boiling sugar, water, and corn syrup. When ready, add butter, cream, and sea salt, giving it that sweet and salty flavor. Once you stir in the pecans, just add it to your pie shell and bake. While preparing the caramel is a bit labor intensive, this pecan pie is mouth-wateringly worth it. Pumpkin Pie Coffee Cake Having Thanksgiving without pumpkin pie is like having Christmas without Santa. However, we've mixed things up a bit with the Pumpkin Pie Coffee Cake. This cake combines the much-loved flavors of pumpkin and pie spices with the texture of a coffee cake. Simply prepare your cake batter, pour half into the pan, then cover with pumpkin filling. Pour the remaining cake batter on top. For an amusing twist, use a knife to create a marbled pattern through the cake. Sprinkle your premade crumble topping over the entire pan and bake. Now you can have your pumpkin pie and cake too! Don't Forget to Give Back Thanksgiving is a time when most of us gather with friends and family to offer thanks. However, it is also important to remember there are many people who don't have this opportunity. One of the best ways to stay grateful for what you have is by giving to others. Here are some great local Spring Hill places to volunteer at this Thanksgiving: Salvation Army The Salvation Army provides many opportunities to volunteer, including food pantries and soup kitchens. To find a location close to you, fill out a volunteer form at their website or conduct a search for the office nearest you. Daystar Life Center Daystar Life Center operates numerous food pantries and soup kitchens throughout Hernando County. It is through their volunteers that these pantries are staffed and those in need are served. Contact them to find Florida volunteering locations this Thanksgiving. Annie W. Johnson Service Center The Annie W. Johnson Service Center is located in Dunnellon. In addition to their thrift store, they also offer meals to those in need, including the shut-ins throughout Citrus County. You can learn more about them on their Facebook page. To find ways you can volunteer, contact their office. Homosassa Florida Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma's Toll: What You Can Do to Help Florida

In the days leading up to Hurricane Irma, there was much trepidation over the eventual human and material impact the hurricane would have. Hurricane Irma, after all, will go down in history as one of the most notorious storms to ever form in the Atlantic Ocean, ultimately making landfall as a CAT4 hurricane in the Florida Keys September 10 th. Sustained winds of up to 185 mph made it deadly, forcing mandatory and voluntary evacuations across the state of Florida. Predictions place the monetary value of Irma’s damage in the range of $50 billion, and that’s not including costs to replace the thousands of vehicles lost to flooding and storm damage. So, what can you do to aid in the recovery efforts? Donate Time & Money With Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma submitting the southern states to a one-two punch, our ability to contribute is more important than ever. USA Today offered a list of charities that can make a big impact on those affected. Some select charities to consider include: more Red Cross: The Red Cross has mobilized volunteers and resources to tackle the damage of both Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. World Vision: A Christian charity that guarantees 90% of all funds contributed will directly go to those impacted, while the other funds will go toward getting the word out. PayPal: Set up a private relief page as PayPal is waving all processing fees, allowing 100% of donations to get to those in need. Village Toyota: To support all our fellow Floridians affected by Irma, we’re currently offering $1,000 rebates when purchasing a new or used car at our Homosassa Toyota dealership. Click here to learn if you’re qualified to receive this cash-back discount. As horrific as Irma was, watching people come together is always powerful. Signs of a Flooded Used Car Hurricane Irma was responsible for one the largest mass evacuations in American history. As residents made their way out of the Sunshine State, half a million cars were left to incur Irma’s wrath. As car people, we want to ensure you aren’t stuck with a flooded or salvaged vehicle the next time you shop for a car. Here are some common signs and symptoms of a car that’s been submerged in stormwater. Gather a CARFAX Vehicle History Report; these reports are invaluable as a source of vehicular information. They contain statistics regarding flood damage, accident history, odometer readings, service records, and more. Use your sense of smell; flood and water damage often leave a noticeable musty odor, especially on carpets, seats, and in trunks. Dig around a little bit. Pull back the carpet to see if there are water spots or stains. A recent shampooing can be a sign that flood damage has occurred, but you’ll have to look (and sniff) thoroughly to make sure. Take a peek under the vehicle to see if you can spot any corrosive surfaces. Open doors, the hood, and trunk to look for discoloration, which can be an obvious sign of water damage. Observe and test out electrical components that would have been affected by water damage. During your test drive, be sure to turn on all the lights, radio, AC, etc. If anything is out of sorts, such as a flickering overhead lamp or flashing dash lights, you might want to give it a no-go. Shop at a verified used car dealership like Village Toyota. We thoroughly inspect and recondition any used vehicle that comes into our dealer, so you can rest assured that you’ll be getting a quality car without a salvage history. Let’s work together to rebound from this crazy hurricane season. Whether you’re from Homosassa or Dunnellon, FL, know that we’re all in this together. If you’re in need of a car after Irma, or simply want to learn more about how to help those affected by this year’s storms, contact your local Toyota dealership at (352) 628-5100 or visit our Homosassa used Toyota dealership at 2431 S Suncoast Blvd. We’ll gladly point you toward a quality vehicle or charity to donate your time and money to. Stay strong, Floridians! We’ll be back and running at full speed before you know it. The Best Off-Roading Features on the New 2017 Toyota 4Runner

The 2017 Toyota 4Runner boasts the space, premium materials, and modern technology for family transportation both in the suburbs of Brooksville and the busy city streets of Spring Hill, FL. But it also easily muscles through off-road adventures around Citrus County with features like the following: Photo: Toyota.com more When starting from a steep incline, Hill Start Assist Control momentarily holds the 4Runner stationary as you move your foot from the brake pedal to accelerator. This means you won’t find yourself slowly rolling down the slope like some mossy boulder. To maximize your grip on rough terrain, two 4-Wheel Drive systems are available on the new 4Runner. The SR5 with 4WD and the TR Off-Road rely on part-time 4WD with Active Traction Control (A-TRAC). The 4Runner Limited model comes with 4WD, which gets full-time capability through A-TRAC and a Torsen® limited-slip center differential. The locking rear differential is electronically controlled to evenly distribute engine power to both rear wheels. Even if one is off the ground, they both move at the same speed, so you maintain a predictable pace over challenging obstacles on the road and off the beaten path. To adjust your Toyota 4Runner’s traction level and engine throttle, twist the Multi-Terrain Select module and choose from four modes that regulate wheel spin. Crawl Control is the 4Runner’s king when it comes to optimizing traction on uneven surfaces; it automatically adjusts the brakes and throttles through five low-speed settings, which keeps surprises to a minimum. The Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System also improves traction control thanks to enhanced modulation. Test Out the Impressive New Toyota 4Runner in Homosassa The best way to uncover the advantages of these amazing features for yourself is to take the all-new Toyota 4Runner for a test drive. Although we don’t recommend test driving the 4Runner on the rough trails in Citrus County, you can swing through Dunnellon or Inverness to see what this impeccable Toyota SUV is capable of. Contact our new Toyota dealership in Homosassa today to schedule a test drive! Call us at (352) 628-5100 or visit our new and used car dealership at 2431 S Suncoast Blvd to view any of our vehicles, 4Runner or otherwise. At Village Toyota, we’re proud to serve all of you off-roading aficionados in Spring Hill, Brooksville, and (of course) Homosassa.   Sources & Photos: https://www.toyota.com/4runner/

5 Toyota Models That Earned 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Awards

We use our vehicles for everything, from daily work commutes to weekend runs for ice cream. We camp out of them. We drive our kids to soccer practice with them. We let our dogs slobber outside our vehicle’s windows when flooring it up I-98. We love and take care of our cars, and in return, we expect them to care about us. And there’s no better vehicle to rely on than a Toyota. That’s because the engineers at Toyota know how important safety is to every single driver—and these five 2017 Toyota models prove it. All of the below cars and SUVs have not only passed the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) battery of tests, but they’ve also earned places atop the organization’s Top Safety Pick+ list. Bravo! 2017 Toyota Corolla – Photo: Toyota.com Toyota Corolla more If you're looking for an incredibly reliable and comfortable car to commute in every day, the 2017 Corolla has a lot to offer, specifically by providing what you want from a sedan: predictable. This sleek car comes with the standard but incredibly thorough suite of Toyota safety features, including the following: Seven advanced airbags ABS Stability control Daytime running Lights Side mirrors with integrated turn signals Height-adjustable pedals Tow hooks on both ends A convenient system that levels your headlights and alerts you if you're drifting outside your lane. These features even appear in almost all modern Toyota models. 2017 Toyota Prius – Photo: Toyota.com Toyota Prius The overwhelmingly successful Toyota hybrid hatchback has shown its colors again by earning its place as one of the safest vehicles on the road. Following in the steps of the gas-powered Corolla, the Prius comes with all the same standard features, and the automatic systems are displayed on the car’s incredibly handy computer, which is built directly into the spaceship-like dashboard. For a quiet, fuel-efficient and five-star-rated hybrid, the 2017 Prius is your best bet. 2017 Toyota RAV4 – Photo: Toyota.com Toyota RAV4 Slightly larger than a Prius, and with a unique hybrid option, the all-new 2017 RAV4 is perhaps the safest compact SUV available. This Toyota model comes standard with Hill Start Assist, and a supremely functional Trailer Sway Control, allowing it to haul like a full-size SUV without sacrificing the natural efficiency of its smaller crossover frame. 2017 Toyota Camry – Photo: Toyota.com Toyota Camry You've probably seen hundreds and thousands of Camrys around town because this Toyota car is to the road what the Prom King or Queen was to your high school. The 2017 Camry is an aerodynamic sedan that’s equipped with the full suite of safety features, including ten airbags, conveniently accessible lower LATCH anchors, and a lane-departure warning system to help you remain safe while cruise-controlling on long trips or taking the scenic route home after a busy day at work. 2017 Toyota Highlander – Photo: Toyota.com Toyota Highlander One of only three mid-sized SUVs to earn a Top Safety Pick+ stamp, the 2017 Highlander makes for a safe vehicle you and your family can count on. With both Toyota Safety Sense and the Star Safety system, the high-tech Highlander offers a comprehensive collection of collision-aversion features and a suite of automatic stability and break assistance. Adventuring in the 2017 Toyota RAV4

Built for your adventurous side, the 2017 Toyota RAV4 stands out as a crossover with premium style, inside and out. This multi-award winner breaks free from the competition thanks to numerous standard features, including some developed for the current year. Let’s check out the latest RAV4, and you’ll soon see why it might just be your next SUV. Photo: Toyota.com What's New in the RAV4? Updates in Toyota’s latest RAV4 model include two new trims: Up your fuel efficiency with the new entry-level RAV4 SE Hybrid, and you’ll be powering past the gas pumps. Stick with the gas engine, and you can climb to the peak of Amenity Hill with the top-of-the-line RAV4 Platinum, which includes a Smart Key System for all five doors, Platinum Protectors for the door sills, a Bird's Eye View Camera, and a foot-activated power liftgate, among other features. more All models now also get Toyota Safety Sense P, which was previously available only on the Limited trim. This suite of driver-assist technologies includes the following: Lane Departure Alert that warns you audio-visually when you drift from your current lane. If you don't take corrective action, Steering Assist keeps you on the straight-and-narrow by nudging the steering. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control that keeps you at a safe distance from the vehicle in front using the speed you set. It automatically speeds up or slows down to take care of changes in traffic flow. Pre-Collision Braking automatically stops your vehicle under specific circumstances or if it's about to hit something or someone. Automatic High Beams switches your high beams to low beams when it detects the headlights of oncoming traffic. When that traffic has passed, the high beams come on again. Photo: Toyota.com Standing Out with Standards Already an outstanding value for the money, the 2017 Toyota RAV4 impresses with a long list of standard features that are usually available on other brands as extra-cost options. Even the entry-level LE trim contains the following pluses: Entune™ Audio system that comes with six speakers, a 6.1-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth® wireless technology, hands-free phone system, voice recognition, AM/FM radio, CD/MP3/WMA player, and a USB 2.0 port with iPod® control. Backup camera that projects grid lines in real time so that you can easily judge your path and distance to obstacles. Driving modes like ECO (to emphasize fuel efficiency) and Sport (when responsive power is more important). Remote keyless entry system so you never have to take your keys out of your pocket when entering the SUV. Eight cupholders and three front 12-volt power outlets for charging up personal devices. Overhead console with storage for your sunglasses. Hill Start Assist Control for holding the brakes when you start the engine on an incline; it gives you time to move your foot from brake pedal to accelerator without rolling down the slope. Earning Its Awards As proof of its outstanding quality and performance, this new Toyota RAV4 SUV has received plenty of awards: Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (equipped with LED headlamps). Highest 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Best Hybrid SUV for the Money nominee by US News & World Report for the RAV4 Hybrid models. High consumer ratings across the board. Scoping Out the Competition In general, the 2017 Toyota RAV4 offers more standard features than the Honda CR-V, the Nissan Rogue, or the Subaru Forester. The RAV4 also gets higher reliability scores than the Forester and offers slightly better performance than the CR-V. Finally, the RAV4 outsells both the CR-V and Ford Escape, partially due to Toyota's reputation for manufacturing vehicles with greater durability and higher quality (and the standardized Toyota Safety Sense P helps). The Top 3 Tire Care Tips Every Driver Should Know

New and longtime car owners alike aren't always confident that they know how to maintain their vehicle. Thankfully, a lot of the trick to conscientious maintenance is as easy as coming up with a simple, effective plan to minimize wear—and visiting your local auto service center at regular intervals. Today we'll focus on 3 tire care tips that will help keep you and your family safe while ensuring fewer visits to the tire store. Check your tire pressure at least once a month. If you don't know it already, check your vehicle owner's manual or the tire placard on your vehicle's door edge to find the target pressure. By maintaining this as consistently as you can, you'll increase your overall gas mileage, as well as the lifespan of your tires. Get your tires rotated professionally and on schedule. Another quick check with your owner's manual will point you in the right direction here, which is usually around every 5,000 to 7,000 miles. Professional tire rotation is key because each tire takes on different pressures during normal usage; for example, you lose pressure from braking and accumulate extra tire wear from turning. A tire rotation balances those differences, preventing the need to replace one tire due to focused wear. Check your tread. A healthy tire tread is crucial for keeping you and your passengers safe, especially in tough road conditions. You might be surprised by how simple the test is. First, place a quarter into a tread groove with Washington’s head facing down. If there is space between the tread and Washington's perfect hairdo, you should seek professional advice and expect to buy new tires. And if you've heard about the classic penny test, stick to keeping a quarter in your glove box; the Lincoln version isn't relevant to modern tires (or times). By following these simple tips alongside soliciting advice from automotive specialists, you'll be driving safer, avoiding tire emergencies, and spending less overall. Whew. Get Your Tires Checked at Village Toyota Whether you own a new Toyota or another make and model, don't hesitate to contact Village Toyota at (352) 628-5100 to discuss your tire concerns and ask about our current tire specials. We can rotate, align, or replace any brand of tire, guaranteed.
